Our latest job was for our customer, Steven. His garage door opener stopped working, so he gave us a call to fix it, or replace it, depending on what we found.
After coming out and inspecting his broken opener, it was toast. The best course of action was to replace the opener. You can see in the picture below there is only 1 spring installed, and a very old chain drive opener.
Usually when a new opener is installed, in addition to reconfiguring it, ensuring the door is balanced and cable tensions and springs are adjusted for the new opener force.
In Steven’s case, instead of resetting all of these parts, we decided to go ahead and upgrade his garage door springs and the cables. Steven had 1 spring before, so we not only replaced the spring, but gave him a dual spring system. This will give more longevity to the springs and support the door better.
The biggest upgrade for Steven, however, was his new opener. He went from a noisy, old chain drive opener, to this beautiful LiftMaster 8355 belt drive opener. Belt drive openers are generally the most expensive opener type, however they require no maintenance and are incredibly quiet. If you have a room directly above your garage, as Steven does, a quiet opener is a great option!
Below you can see the new LiftMaster opener and the dual springs.
In case you don’t believe us that the belt drive opener is super quiet, we put together a video of Steven’s garage door, below. You can hear how smoothly and quietly the door opens with the new LiftMaster opener!
