Garage doors are easy access for thieves to enter your home due to lack of security measures and ease of entry.
At PS Garage Door Miami, we encourage you to employ some, if not all, of the suggestions in this post in order to ensure your garage door and home are safe from unwanted intruders!
These solutions are simple and often inexpensive, so there’s no excuse!
If you have an attached garage, a very simple security measure is to keep the door connecting your home and your garage LOCKED at all times. This includes when you leave the home and when you are home. We also recommend installing a peep hole on these doors, but at the very least, the door should have a deadbolt and be locked at all times.
This isn’t everyone’s cup of tea as it is a design suggestion, however frosting your garage door windows is a great way to make it harder for thieves to peek in your garage when you aren’t looking. They can view the route to enter your home as well as any valuables you store in your garage and look out for other security measures. Make it difficult for them to gather this info! They will probably move on.
This is the most expensive suggestion but not always! Simply replacing your garage door opener, which will set you back a hundred or two, is a GREAT security investment. Openers on the market today include fingerprint recognition, rolling code tech, automatic closing if left open, and control over an app (so you can see if someone opens your door when you aren’t home)!
Call us or your local garage door company to learn more about the openers that can help increase your garage security!
This is an inexpensive weekend project that will last forever! Installing sensor lights around your garage door (and inside when someone enters!) is a great security measure. Thieves don’t want to have a light shine on them and will usually run away if it happens. Sensor lights around your front door, windows, side entrance and the backyard will help deter visitors!
This might seem like a no-brainer but so many people leave their garage door open – either on purpose since they are home and think it isn’t a big deal OR forget to close it when they are gone. A good opener will take care of the latter problem. As for the former, it’s as simple as keeping it closed when you’re home! Thieves like to canvas areas and keeping your garage door open is an open invitation to see what’s inside and how to get into your home.
